Machinist


Key Duties and Responsibilities

•   Hands on practical machinest with strong (5 years +) experience with conventional, CNC and grinding operations
•   Managing small projects using engineering principles and techniques
•   Producing details of specifications and outline designs
•   Recommending modifications following prototype test results
•   Using research, analytical, conceptual and planning skills, particularly mathematical modeling and computer-aided design
•   Considering the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints on projects, as well as on the design and development of products
•   Working with other professionals, within and outside the engineering sector

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

•   Solidworks or other 3D modeling experience is a plus and can read / make blueprints from sample parts
•   Part inspection and analytical skills
•   Some hands on experience with the following grinding operations, which include surface, dual disk, chamfering small parts and blanchard grinding
•   Knowledge of setting up fixtures, calculating feed rates and cutting speeds
•   Hands on experience with grinding profiles
•   Hands on experience with manual metal fabrication and machining equipment
•   Good communication skills, including Technical writing skills
•   Comfortable handling and managing a range of tasks
•   A well-developed understanding of safety and an interest in working in a safe environment
•   Willingness to do shift work when required

Other Desirable Skills

•   Knowledge of mathematical computing and analysis tools (Matlab, Excel etc.)
•   CNC lathe and mill machining experience using Mazak machines
•   An understanding of electro discharge machining (EDM), including wire and hole popping
•   Hands on experience with centreless grinding
•   Hands on experience with deburing machines
•   Hands on experience using diamond saws
•   Basic practical experience with TIG, MIG and stick welding on various metals and an understanding of the use of appropriate filler wire
•   Experience with CNC plasma cutting
•   Basic practical experience with electrical wiring and plumbing
•   Forklift truck trained and willingness to work at height

The work is mainly factory-based with potential overseas visits to plants, factories, workshops or building sites. Factory production areas can be noisy. Dress code can vary from that necessary for office-based work to a hard hat and overalls when working on site. Absence from home overnight and overseas work or travel may be required. There are many opportunities to work abroad, particularly throughout Asia.

The applicant should be willing to work in an R&D and production environment. As safety and the environment is very important to Urban Mining Company, the applicant should be motivated to work in a safe manner while meeting achievable deadlines. The job will require that the applicant conduct all of their work at our facility, as is required.
