rare earth magnet materials are engineered products
that are designed to meet specific customer requirements -

UMC has fine-tuned its technological capability to produce magnetic materials, products, and systems that operate in higher temperature environments - UMC produces Nd-Fe-B magnets with higher magnetic flux, higher coercivity, increased resistivity, and better thermal stability.
From preparing raw materials to building finished magnet assemblies, UMC can operate all the steps within the magnet value chain internally, and thus ensure optimum properties across the entire production process.

Urban Mining Company’s main products are sintered Nd-Fe-B magnets, engineered and available to meet requirements across the entire performance range, with a focus on high-temperature applications.
Sintered Nd-Fe-B magnet designed and engineered using UMC technology display increased performance at higher temperatures, greater thermal stability, higher resistivity, and improved corrosion resistance.
Sintered Nd-Fe-B magnet products can be produced and delivered as block or finished pieces, or supplied as assembly.

Typical sintered rare earth magnet characteristics with different magnetic properties presented in a reference table can be used to help designers. However, understanding critical-to-quality characteristics (e.g. nominal values at elevated temperatures) is necessary to finely tune Nd-Fe-B magnet products for a specific application.

UMC die-pressed sintered magnets usually require further machining and grinding to meet customer specifications. Typical shapes and sizes include:

For parts cut from blocks, the length tolerances are ± 0.1 mm. Upon request, even tighter tolerances may be met by grinding. The tolerance after grinding is normally ± 0.05 mm; from case to case, values up to ± 0.02 mm are possible. For shaped parts with more complex geometry, upper and lower limits must be defined by the end-users.

 

coatings
Urban Mining Company realizes high environmental performance and functionality with respect to surface treatment, including moisture resistance, salt-water resistance, scratch resistance, thermal resistance, electric insulation, adhesiveness, and dimensional precision. All coatings used in Urban Mining Products are compliant with the RoHS directive.
The following table compares the properties of commonly available coatings and should be used as a guideline when selecting surface protection for a particular application. It specifies the minimum layer thickness of the various coatings and ensures adequate corrosion protection in the majority of applications. To meet more stringent requirements on corrosion protection, the layer thickness must be adjusted accordingly. Please also note that improper handling may affect the integrity of the coating.

In addition to the production of magnetic materials and products, Urban Mining Company is a partner for the manufacture and large-scale assembly of advanced components and magnetic assemblies, in every size and required level of complexity. UMC utilizes an inter-disciplinary knowledge pool to design, prototype, and automate scaled-up production of magnetic assemblies within UMC’s vertically integrated production facility in San Marcos, Texas.
UMC performs all processing steps in-house: from development of magnetic alloys to the coating and magnetization processes, through to assembly and final inspection. UMC is willing to manufacture one-off prototypes or design/build fully automated large volume production of magnet assemblies.
UMC magnet assemblies are based on customer specifications that are developed in a collaborative environment in order to meet the highest possible requirements in terms of precision and reliability. Since all magnetic materials used in magnetic assemblies are manufactured by Urban Mining Company, UMC experts have an in-depth knowledge of property requirements enabling the flexibility to adjust the manufacturing process to optimize the final performance of the completed assembly.
